Subject of the Conference:
The Association for Women’s Career Development in Hungary, founded in 2003, now has the opportunity to cooperate in the work of UN/ECOSOC as the first Hungarian NGO with “Special consultative status with UN-ECOSOC” gained this year. This circumstance makes our cooperation in the field of European relations and global issues like gender equality, women’s rights and women’s employment stronger.

Dr. Hanifa Mezoui, the key-note speaker of our “Partnering for a Better World” Conference,
has ten years of experience as Chief of the NGO Section of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) in the UN. In her speech she spoke about the status of women's empowerment, women in decision-making process at the United Nations. In frame of a consultation she informed about the work of the UN and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), as well as the importance of the relationship with ECOSOC for NGOs with a consultative status.
Further speakers of the conference were: Ambassador Dr. Márta Fekszi Horváth, Chief of Cabinet, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will delivered a speech on Hungary’s role and most important activities in the UN, Mrs. Edit Rauh, Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour, spoke about Hungary’s achievements in the area of gender equality in harmony with the Millennium Development Goals of the UN.

(HUN-IDA) will emphasized in her speech the importance of the women’s equality issue in the international development cooperation programs. In this framework the Hungarian accredited special consultative NGO can transfer and share its knowledge and experience within the region.
Mrs. Andrea Ferenczi, the organizer of the conference, President of AWCDH, spoke about the aim of the organization, as a first Hungarian NGO with “Special consultative status with UN-ECOSOC”, to obtain and forward information in the interest of further improving the situation of women in Hungary, since the participation of women in both political and economic decision making is very low compared to the rest of Europe and the world. It is the aim of the Association for Women’s Career Development in Hungary to introduce its projects for gender equality, to improve the employment of women at EU and UN levels, as well as the further best practice policies.
