CEREMONY FOR THE “AWARD FOR WOMEN’S EQUALITY 2009”
Before the ceremony presenting the “Award for Women’s Equality 2009” Dr. Zita Gurmai, MEP, Dr. László Herczog, Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, and Andrea Ferenczi, President of the Association Women’s Career Development that founded the award, delivered a welcome speech. Andrea Ferenczi talked about the two-year past of the award. In 2007 Dr. Zita Gurmai MEP, Vice Chairwoman of the Committee of Women’s Rights and Gender Equality and April H. Foley American Ambassador received the award, while last year Vladimir Spidla, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities and Edit Rauh, Under-Secretary of State of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour were presented the award.
The “Award for Women’s Equality 2009” was received by Mrs. Irén Ádámné Dunai, Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour, Head of Department of Equality of Women and Men, the Honorable Lynn Gardner Heffron, Founder and Chairwoman of the Diversity Spectrum Corporation (USA), and the Honorable Mrs. Annette Lantos, President of the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights and Justice, who, due to her illness, was unable to attend the ceremony and will receive the award later.
The awardees were greeted by Rita Rónyai, General Secretary of AWCDH, who talked about their hard and effective work for the realization of gender equality, diversity and inclusion and the implementation of the values of democracy. The awards, the unique Zsolnay porcelain plates, were handed over by Andrea Ferenczi, Dr. László Herczog, Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, and Gyöngyi Fazekas, representative of AWCDH for the region of Southern Transdanubia.
